Indigenous Ethnic Groups of Uganda

The first Inhabitants of the region known today as Uganda were the Khoisan people. They were a group of hunters and gathers. Bantu speaking tribes migrating from western Africa eventually replaced the Khoisan people (Rothers).

Uganda did not have a slave trade but Uganda was colonized by the British they were not treated well for example the Europeans and Asians received the highest incomes in Uganda because the controlled the state. Western Uganda became a reservoir of labor for the colonial state as well as the managers of the cash crop economy in Buganda. The
armed forces from the colonial era were from the Lou and Sudanic speakers of the northern region. All of these different groups became a source of instability and violence in postcolonial Uganda (Kasozi).

The current situation is Uganda is much better then it used to be even though they are one of the poorest under developed countries in the world. The government has taken important steps to fix their economy. Also the government has put a stop to the human rights abuses by earlier governments. In the United States there are lots of different ethnic groups lots of which have been discriminated. For example when the British came they took over the Native Americans land like they also did to the Ugandans. In the United States there are tons of different groups and still some racism but the majority now live in peace.

A person that has impacted Uganda is the President
Yoweri Museveni he became president in 1986. He has achieved economic growth and stability. He has created a strong centralized state and a disciplined army. Yoweri Museveni attended the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, were he lead a student group dedicated to African Independence. He has had a big impact on Uganda.
